Event Details

PA 146: Understanding Michigan’s Literacy and Dyslexia Law

Description:

Michigan’s Literacy and Dyslexia Law (PA 146) introduces important requirements for early literacy instruction, screening, and intervention. Join MAASE members and partner experts for a focused virtual session designed to help special education administrators and educational leaders better understand the law and its implications for implementation.

During this session, facilitators will break down the key components and requirements of PA 146, provide an overview of the statewide implementation timeline, and highlight critical steps districts must take to ensure compliance. Participants will also engage in collaborative breakout discussions to share current practices, identify challenges, and help inform the development of resources and professional learning supports needed across the field.

This interactive session will provide both clarity on statutory expectations and an opportunity for participants to contribute to shaping future supports that will assist districts in effectively implementing Michigan’s literacy and dyslexia requirements.

Included in this virtual day of learning will be Developing Leaders sessions AND the General Membership Meeting.

Developing Leaders is THE place to solve current problems of practice with other MAASE members. Topics for this informal "Ed Camp" opportunity are brainstormed prior to the event. During the sessions, notes are taken to capture the information and resources shared by fellow MAASE members on the hot topic of the day. The General Membership Meeting is where you will hear state level updates from MDE OSE and our lobbyist. You will also hear updates from the President on the Board meetings, current MAASE work and have the opportunity to give input on the direction of the organization.

Schedule for the day:

8:30 MDE OSE Presentation

9:00-12:00 Professional Learning

12:00-1:00 Legislative Update and General Membership Meeting (working lunch)

1:00-1:30 Screen break
