Paraeducator Learning Series

The Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE) is proud to introduce the Paraeducator Professional Learning Series, a comprehensive initiative designed to enhance the training, growth, supervision, and feedback for paraeducators across Michigan.

Rooted in Research and Best Practices

This professional learning series is built upon the Council for Exceptional Children’s (CEC) Core Competencies for Special Education Paraeducators. These competencies outline the critical skills and knowledge paraeducators need to effectively support students with disabilities in today’s PK-12 classrooms. Additionally, the series integrates:

• The CEC’s High Leverage Practices (HLPs) in special education to guide critical practices.
• The CEC Special Education Paraeducator Assessment and Evaluation Toolkit, providing a systematic framework for professional growth.

A Leveled Approach to Learning

Guided by MAASE leadership and informed by national experts, the Paraeducator Professional Learning Series offers a leveled system of professional development tailored to meet the unique needs of paraeducators. This collaborative effort focuses on:

• Best practices in special education.
• Continuous, research-based professional learning opportunities.
• Practical tools and strategies for success.
