How to Launch a New Site

Starting a Project SEARCH site requires a collaborative partnership between a host business, a school district or intermediate school district (ISD), Vocational Rehabilitation, and community service providers.

Key Steps for Program Development:

  • Identify Partners: Establish leadership commitment from local education agencies, business hosts, and vocational services.
  • Join New Site Development Meetings: Participate in monthly virtual planning sessions with statewide coordinators.
  • Secure Host Business Location: Partner with a local employer offering diverse departments for internship rotations.
  • Plan Intern Selection: Establish application and interviewing processes for transition-age students.
"Project SEARCH Genesee County Parks has revolutionized how we prepare students at the Transition Center in Genesee County, creating a clear pathway to employment... Its success has inspired the creation of an additional site!"
