MAASE Launches Statewide Campaign Celebrating 50 Years of IDEA
The Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE) has launched The Promise of IDEA: 50 Years and Beyond, a statewide celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The campaign honors IDEA’s historic impact, recognizes Michigan educators, administrators, students, and families who have brought IDEA’s promise to life for five decades, and engages communities across the state in a shared reflection on inclusion, access, and opportunity for all learners.

As part of the celebration, MAASE has created the IDEA Resource Hub, a centralized collection of resources for districts, schools, and educators. The hub includes:
- Downloadable Social Media Kit with graphics, templates, and hashtags to help districts and members participate.
- Historical and Educational Resources documenting IDEA milestones and Michigan’s contributions to special education.
- Future-Focused Guidance for sustaining inclusion and equity initiatives in the years ahead.
MAASE invites Michigan educators, administrators, families, and partner organizations to participate by sharing stories of IDEA in action on social media using #ThePromiseofIDEA and #IDEAat50. All contributions will be featured on the IDEA Resource Hub as part of an ongoing archive to support professional learning and advocacy beyond the anniversary year.
